The Provincial Head, Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya, once more lauded the Gqeberha based Serious Organised Crime Investigation team of the Hawks for the arrest of a 50-year-old suspect on 12 October 2023 for charges of cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery. It is alleged that on 28 March 2023, a G4S vehicle stopped at the back entrance of Quick Spar, Gqalo Street, KwaMagxaki, Gqeberha to collect money. It is further alleged that the driver of the G4S vehicle stayed behind in the truck. One guard reportedly came from the back and went to the office inside Spar to collect the money. He allegedly received the money which was placed in the trolley bag.
On his way back, the guard with the trolley bag was allegedly accosted by four to five unknown suspects when he reached the G4S armoured vehicle. The guard was reported to have been robbed of cash to the value of R60 000 and his service pistol with rounds of ammunition. The suspects then ran to the front of Spar where they are alleged to have gotten into a white Nissan NP 200 bakkie and fled the scene. The bakkie was later found abandoned shortly after the incident.
