Two severe accident happened at around 19:30 this evening, leaving a man deceased and another five people with moderate to severe injuries.
Paramedics rushed to the scene of an accident on Olifantsfontein road near Midrand where a Ford Bantam bakkie was traveling along approximately seven kilometers from the N1 highway towards Midrand. A VW Citi Golf then collided into the back of the bakkie with such force that one of the five occupants of the Golf was flung from the vehicle and landed on the road. The 28 year old had suffered such severe injuries that he had died at the scene prior to the arrival of the paramedics.
Two women who were also traveling in he Golf had suffered serious injuries and were treated on the scene before they were taken to hospitals in the surrounding area. The two other men also traveling in the Golf at the time of the accident had suffered moderate injuries and they too were taken to hospital for further care.
The occupants of the bakkie were not physically injured.
At around the same time, the Johannesburg West crews were dispatched to the corners of Olivenhout and Northumberland drive in Northriding. A paramedic working for the STAT team had witnessed a man being knocked from his scooter. The scooter was bent and mangled and the man in his late 30’s was flung onto the road. The paramedic immediately initiated life saving treatment while waiting for the ER24 ambulance to arrive.
They continued to stabilise the patient on scene, treating him for a severe head injury, chest injuries and multiple other life threatening injuries.
He was taken per ambulance to the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital where he was handed over to waiting trauma staff in a critical condition.
