A grandmother and her two year old granddaughter were walking down 3rd road in Brendell AH this morning, the granny pushing the child in a pram. A Mazda bakkie then crashed into the two, leaving them with critical injuries.
The Paramedics from the Johannesburg East branch were called out to the scene, arriving to find that both woman and child had suffered extensive injuries. They were both lying in the sand at the side of the road, the crumple pram a short way away.
The two year old little girl needed immediate life saving treatment, she had sustained what appeared to be a head injury and she was placed on assisted breathing equipment. She was further stabilised at the scene while paramedics waited for the Medicopter to land to take her to hospital. The ER24 Discovery Medicopter transported the child to the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto.
The grandmother, believed to be in her 50’s, was treated for multiple injuries and was taken to Tembisa Hospital by ambulance.
The occupants in the bakkie were not injured.
