A 20-year-old male was conned of his valuables while assisting a female in the Verulam CBD – KZN.
The victim was escorted to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) HQ by a passerby who stopped to assist him. According to the male, he had withdrawn his R350 Social Relief Of Distress (SRD) Grant and purchased a KFC Streetwise 2. He was approached by an unknown female shortly after he left the establishment.
The woman requested his assistance to uplift some valuables from her boyfriend. The victim spoke to a male on the female’s cellphone. The man informed him to meet on the corner of Todd & Russom Street in Verulam – KZN. The male handed over a bag containing the KFC, R300 in cash, his birth certificate and cellphone to the woman.
He then proceeded to the meeting point, but could not locate her the man he had spoke to. He realised that he had been duped after he was unable to locate the woman who he handed over his valuables to.
The victim was unable to provide Reaction Officers with a description of the female or any information that could have lead to a search for the suspect.
