The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has strongly condemned the senseless act of violence whereby a female Police Constable (32) and another male victim (35) were shot, allegedly by a male suspect (35). The incident reportedly occurred in Embalenhle on Wednesday night, 13 November 2024 at around 22:00. The male victim has since succumbed to his injuries in hospital today, 14 November 2024.
According to information, the Police at Embalenhle received reports of gunshots in the area. Upon arrival at the scene, Police and emergency medical personnel found the two victims lying next to a vehicle, with serious gunshot wounds.
Meanwhile the female victim, who is a Police Constable, continues to receive medical treatment.
Subsequent to this terrible news, a manhunt was launched for the suspect but thanks to the swift coordination and collaboration by the SAPS members, with their counterparts from Flying Squad Unit in the North West Province, the suspect was cornered and arrested between Potchefstroom and Ventersdorp.
A murder case is now being investigated and the suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
The motive for this incident remains unknown at this stage and it will be part of the probe however Domestic Violence cannot be ruled out.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim(s) and their families during this difficult time. We will ensure that justice is served for the victims and that the suspect faces the full might of the law.”
