Community Safety and Transport Management MEC Wessels Morweng accompanied North West Premier Lazarus Mokgosi to welcome the Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and Deputy Minister Cassel Mathale at the Stilfontein Police Station, on their visit to the Stilfontein mine shaft where illegal miners are still underground.
To date, more than 1,000 individuals have resurfaced from illegal mining activities, and efforts are ongoing to ensure that those who remain underground resurface.
