Police in the Northern Cape Province, in collaboration with other Government Departments and law enforcement agencies, intensified efforts to clamp down on priority crimes throughout the province.
During week long disruptive actions, executed from Monday 17 February 2024 until Sunday 23 February 2025, 196 perpetrators, including wanted suspects were arrested for an array of crimes including dealing in drugs and possession of drugs, robbery, attempted murder, assault GBH and burglary. Detectives embarked on tracing operations to apprehend wanted suspects who had been evading the law.
A total of 588 stop and search actions were executed, as well as 42 vehicle check points and roadblocks. These actions resulted in the search of 3945 persons and 1147 vehicles.
912 Compliance inspections were conducted at liquor outlets, second-hand goods dealers, scrapyards, and recyclers, as well as informal businesses which led to the closure of 15 unlicensed liquor outlets and the confiscation of a substantial amount of liquor.
High visibility patrols and police actions resulted in the confiscation of drugs, including dagga, Mandrax, and Tik, as well as dangerous weapons.
A total of 67 farms were visited by police together with officials from the Department of Home Affairs and the Department of Labour to address farm safety and prevention of stock theft.
Several community outreach programmes were conducted across all five districts to create awareness and share safety precautions regarding child safety, especially bullying, robbery and fraud, substance abuse, rural safety, and service delivery.
