Tactical Team in Majola, Port St Johns, arrested a 37-year-old man in Qhaka locality, Swazini A/A, on Monday, 24 March 2025, for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
In a separate incident in Libode, Mdeni locality (Corhana), a 35-year-old male suspect was reported to police by his partner on Sunday, 23 March 2025, for allegedly threatening her with a firearm during a domestic dispute. Officers responded swiftly, leading to the suspect’s arrest and the recovery of the unlicensed firearm, which was found to be linked to a Mthatha case from March 2019.
Both suspects are expected to appear in their respective Magistrates’ Courts on Wednesday, 26 March 2025, facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The Libode suspect will also face an additional charge related to domestic violence.
OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana, commended his officers for their swift action, stating, “The confiscation of illegal firearms and the arrest of suspects are key in making our communities not only safe but also feel safe.”
