A 20 year old motorcyclist sustained serious injuries this afternoon following a collision between a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle on Victoria road in Southfield.
The events leading up to the collision is unclear at this stage, but the motorcyclist was struck by the vehicle and slammed into the road. The motor vehicle the proceeded to move forward driving over the man and entrapping him under the vehicle.
ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene to find the man still entrapped under the vehicle. Rescue personnel from the WCG: EMS later lifted the vehicle off of the motorcyclist. The AER24 helicopter was dispatched to the scene.
The patient received Advanced Life Support treatment at the scene for a suspected broken hip, as well as suspected back and neck injuries and various cuts and bruises. The patient was later airlifted to Groote Schuur hospital for further medical attention.
None of the occupants in the passenger vehicle sustained any injuries in the collision. Local law enforcement officials attended the scene and will be investigating the cause of the collision further.
