A mother and daughter have sustained serious injuries after the daughter lost control of the light motor vehicle and rolled numerous times on the N2 north bound past Winklespruit this afternoon.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the two occupants still in the car in the right hand lane of the freeway. Paramedics assessed the patients and found that the driver had suspected neck and back injuries and multiple cuts and abrasions. The mother had a suspected head injury, broken pelvis and suspected neck and back injuries. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the patient while she was taken out the vehicle. The mother who was the more serious of the two was airlifted to hospital with the Department of Health Air Medicopter rapid medical care.
It is believed that the daughter may have had some sort of medical incident causing her to lose control of the vehicle. Traffic was severely affected in the area due to the accident but the local authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
